ECEP leaders have had a busy summer sharing our expertise and resources with colleagues across the nation at various conferences. This dissemination work began with the Code.org Advocacy Coalition’s State Computer Science Supervisors meeting. This annual gathering of state CS supervisors always yields new ideas in CS advocacy and uncovers state-level actions that are driving CS education initiatives across the United States. Two conferences specifically aimed at CS educators — the WeTeach_CS Summit in Texas and the national Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) 2022 Annual Conference in Chicago — brought ECEP’s mission and resources to K-12 teachers.

At the WeTeach_CS Summit held in June, ECEP Co-PI and Alliance Director Sarah Dunton led a session for teachers that focused on the Advo-kit, an advocacy toolkit designed for teachers who are interested in CS education advocacy. At the CSTA conference held in July, ECEP PIs Josh Childs, Sarah Dunton, and Carol Fletcher introduced the Landscape Report Toolkit and led attendees through a session on Building Your Equity Advo-Kit.

In early September, ECEP participated in a session at the Tapia Conference that highlighted all of the Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC) Alliances with a focus on sharing our Scaling Inclusive Pedagogy (ScIP) project. Carol Fletcher outlined opportunities to participate in the facilitator training for the Strategies for Effective and Inclusive CS Teaching course.

As part of the recently announced $3 million grant from Google.org, Childs and Fletcher joined Google.org’s Partnership Manager Carina Box and Google’s Head of Public Policy and External Affairs for the South Katharine McAden in a panel discussion regarding university and industry partnerships at the UIDP Conference.
